The Lebanon Greyhounds opened the season in a big way Wednesday night defeating St Libory 9-1. The Greyhounds were led by a masterful complete game 2-hitter by 8^th Grader Joey Schmitt. Schmitt overpowered the Saints striking out 18 batters. The offense for Lebanon arrived a little later in the game but when it did, it was explosive. Schmitt helped his own cause tying the game in the third with an RBI base hit. A leadoff triple by Austin Yates in the 4^th inning marked a missed opportunity as the hounds left him stranded. The 5^th inning was highlighted by 5 consecutive hits:  Parker Grob’s single, Steven Fuller’s triple and back to back to back singles from Schmitt, Ben Shaw and Yates plated three and Lebanon took a 4-1 lead into the sixth. The 6^th inning is when the Greyhounds opened up a big lead. A leadoff walk by 5^th grader Tim Tincher followed by 5^th grader Sam Newberry being hit by a pitch set up a big inning. 5^th Grader Conner Martin-Little moved the two runners over and the top of the order delivered, a hit by catcher Parker Grob plated Tincher, this was followed promptly by Steven Fuller bringing Newberry in with a hit of his own. Schmitt placed the final dagger with a bases clearing double making it 8-1. 5^th grader  Roger Eckert ran for Schmitt and scored the 9^th and final run as yates picked up his 3^rd hit and 2^nd RBI of the game.   The sixth inning onslaught was ended as the Saints shortstop saved a would be hit from 5^th grader Tanner Sonsoucie. Schmitt finished off the 7^th in 1-2-3 fashion and the Greyhounds bring a 1-0 record to their home field Thursday night at they take on Valmeyer at 4:15.
